PREPARATION:
     Call the Quarters, cast the Circle, call upon Pelee and Mars, two dieties associated with fire. Arrange the three orange candles in a large, evenly-sided triangle on the ground around you.

 

PROCEDURE:
     Announce your intent to invoke protection using a fire shield. From the red candle in the Southern corner, light the white pillar candle and sit cross-legged on the ground in the center of the three orange candles. Place the white pillar candle on the ground in front of you. Close your eyes and meditate for a few moments on the nature of Fire, especially its ability to repel anything that gets too close.

     After awhile, begin to raise Power by drawing down the Moon, and drawing up the Earth. When the air itself is humming with Power and shadows dance upon the walls, begin the following chant...

 

 

     While chanting, envision a circle of flames slowly rising from the ground, connecting the orange candles in a ring of flame. Every three times the chant is repeated, raise your voice a little and light an orange candle in a clockwise pattern. When the chant has been repeated nine times and all three orange candles are lit, switch seamlessly into the following chant...

 

 

          "Thrice around and thrice repeat, all Evil does this ring  defeat."

 

     Repeat three times, raising your voice even more with every repetition. Stand abruptly and hold the white pillar candle before you. Turn to face the East and in a loud, commanding voice, assert...

 

          "Nothing from the East can harm me!"

 

     Turn to the South and hold aloft the pillar candle.

 

           "Nothing from the South can harm me!"

 

     Turn to the West and present the pillar candle before yourself.

 

 

     Turn to the North...

 

          "Nothing from the North can harm me!"

 

     Hold the candle high above your head.

 

          "Nothing from Above can harm me!"

 

     Place the candle on the ground.

 

 

     Visualize long tendrils of bright orange flame leaping from the three orange candles, connecting the six points you touched with the pillar candle in a web of living flame. Watch as they close around you, enveloping your body and swirling around your form to create a "second skin" of fire.

 

     When this is completed, appropriately close all connections. Dismantle the Circle. Thank the powers that aided you in your work, and wash and put away all your tools. Enjoy for about a day the empowering effects of a shield of fire.
