Lugh (Lug): God of light. He killed his grandfather, Balor, during the great battle in which a new order of gods and goddesses
took over from the primal beings of chaotic energy. He was the god of skill and ability, and chief Lord of the Tuatha de Daanan.
White stag, ravens. The many-skilled. Lugh is the Irish sun god, and a god of war. He was a carpenter, warrior, druid, mason,
smith, harper, poet, physician and goldsmith. He is depicted as a handsome, youthful, athletic man and is associated with
the eagle, horse, and dog. He guards roads and travelers and can be invoked for all love magic. Lugh is a Sacred King -- a
sacrificial God.
Lugh's sacred symbol was a magic spear, the signature weapon of the ‘heavenly sky god’. He was always accompanied
by two ravens and had a connection with prophecy. Sometimes he is shown as one-eyed.
Lugh and his nature goddess consort Rosmerta were worshipped during the 30-day Lugnassad midsummer feast in Ireland. Beginning
on August 1, fertility magic during the festival ensured ripening of the crops and good harvests.
Lugh was the brother of the Dagda, and the father of the famous Celtic hero Cu Chulainn.
